Burton's Brewery, location about the corner of the present day Richards and Lawrence Streets, was opened at the beginning of November (1881?)
Standing on four acres of land and owned by Mary Jane Rochester, Henry Morton and Frederick Henry Jackson, the brewery was erected on four levels or storeys, with a flat roof holding tank reservoirs of water pumped from a nearby well. The official opening was conducted by Mrs. John Barnes. A bullock was roasted and the town band played for the crowd of between three and four hundred which attended, despite the counter attraction of a horse stealing trial at the Court House.
note the brewery is no longer standing.

1889 DEATH:
It is likely that he died on 17 February 1889 at March Street, Maryborough Queensland.
The death notice placed in the Brisbane Courier newspaper states the fact that he was late inspector of breweries, Gympie.
This occupation could fit with the previous ownership of the Cootamundra Brewery in NSW.
The following year an 'In Memoriam' notice was placed in the same newspaper in the name of his 'little daughter' Ruby, who would then have been about 7 years old.
The cause of death given in the newspaper notice was paralysis of the brain and gave his age at 54 years.
A search of the Queensland BDM indexes found his death registered as Harry Morton, born in England and aged 55 years, father's name Robert Morton and mother Catherine (no maiden name).
1902 DAUGHTERS MARRIAGE: Henry was deceased by 1902 at the time of his daughter Ruby's marriage, the marriage notice in the Sydney Morning Herald stated that the late Henry Morton was from Sheffield England.
